Cape Verde! Pleasant Grove, Orem, Utah Mission, July 2nd, 2018

What a busy and crazy week! So many changes and good things happening.

Monday I had my final interview with President Killpack... Not my actual final interview, just my last one with him. He gave me advice for my future and encouraged me as only President Killpack can. I love that man and am so grateful for him. Later that might we had a lesson with someone and discussed with them God's love... Something I've felt a lot of lately. I'm so grateful for a loving Heavenly Father. Later that night we finally were able to go pick up our new companion, the final person I'll be training. Her name is Sister Fonseca and she is from Cape Verde, Africa. She was originally called to Vanuatu, English speaking, but had an injury that changed her assignment. She was in the MTC for 9 weeks learning English, and already knows it so well! There's a slight communication barrier at times, because her native language is Portuguese, but with the help of the spirit and Google translate we make it work!

Tuesday was the departing activity with the Killpacks. All of the people going home in August got to spend the entire day doing things with the Killpacks! We first went to the Salt Lake Temple, took some pictures, and were going to hike the "Y" at BYU, but it was the middle of the day and 100 degrees outside, so we went to a museum that talked about how printing presses were made, and how that linked to the Book of Mormon. It was really cool. Then, we went back to their house for dinner, and then had a testimony meeting. At the end of our mission, we are supposed to come up with 5 words that sum it up. Mine are
"I Know My Redeemer Lives" and I was able to share my testimony on that and how that knowledge has helped me through my mission, and how I've seen it change lives. After sharing testimonies, we drove to Hike the "Y". It was still 100 degrees outside and was extremely steep, but with President Killpack as my hiking buddy I made it! Overall, it was an incredible last day with the Killpacks. I am forever grateful for them.

Wednesday I had another ASL lesson in Eagle Mountain, and then we traded our car for feet! We walked a lot in the heat, but it was fun getting to know my companions more. We shared a few messages with people and overall had a great day!

Thursday was Sister Fonseca's first DTM, and I don't think she understood most of it.. But that's okay. She really has such a string spirit and testimony, it's incredible to hear and I feel the spirit so strongly every time she shares it. Later we went to the mission office to get Sister Fonseca's phone, and also had another  lunch correlation with the Backlund's, who I love and adore. Another ASL lesson in Eagle Mountain, and also met with a family I love.. The Ferre's! Another great day.

Friday we helped a lady in one of our wards pack up her house, and then went to the mission office to meet President and Sister Treadway! No one could ever replace the love I have for President and Sister Killpack, but the Treadway's seem really great. I'm glad I have the oppurtunity to get to know them!

Saturday we did lots of catching up on things, especially studies. We got to know each other more, and overall it was just so fun. That night we taught a lesson at a members house, who had a 4 year old and a 2 year old. The entire time the 4 year old kept saying about his 2 year old sister, "I want to poke her in the eye!" When the lesson got to Sister Fonseca, she said "I don't know how to teach kids," and then their dad asked them about Jesus and Sister Fonseca pulled out a pamphlet and pointed to Jesus and said, "You want Jesus? I'll give you Jesus!" and practically shoved it at him. Sister Thomas and I were dying laughing. After that lesson, I taught a girl how to play a short song on the piano and helped someone out. I love when I can feel and notice promptings of when someone needs to be visited.

Sunday was busy, lots of meetings and sacrament meetings as usual. We also taught a relief society lesson today on the talk by President Oaks, "By Small and Simple Things". Really helped me realize that the big decisions aren't always what matter, it's the small and simple things we do every day that help us in the long run.

The gospel is still true folks! Keep living and loving it! If you're not.. Learn about it and start living it! It has changed my life and I promise it will change yours.

Love
